The Center for Strategic and International Studies’ (CSIS) report, Low-Hanging Fruit: Evidence-Based Solutions to the Digital Evidence Challenge, provides thoughtful analysis and a number of practical recommendations to help law enforcement solve crimes in the digital age.

As providers of information technology products and services, the members of the Reform Government Surveillance (RGS) coalition are deeply committed to the security and privacy of our users. We also take very seriously our responsibility to comply with legal process from law enforcement. That is why our industry already devotes significant time, resources, and personnel to responding to such government requests for data.
The CSIS report highlights the real-world challenges that new and rapidly evolving technologies pose for law enforcement investigations. The report finds that the biggest challenges for law enforcement are identifying what data exists and where to go to obtain it, and offers some common sense recommendations to address those challenges.

RGS applauds the authors of this report for their work to foster productive dialogue between law enforcement and the technology industry. RGS is supportive of their efforts, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with law enforcement and other key stakeholders.
