RGS Statement on the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's Transparency Report

The members of the Reform Government Surveillance coalition released the following statement on today’s Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s transparency report:

We appreciate the U.S. Government efforts to increase transparency on its surveillance practices. While today’s report demonstrates progress, we believe that more can be done to strengthen government reporting of surveillance requests so as to increase accountability and restore trust in the Internet globally. Reporting will remain inadequate until our companies are allowed to be more transparent about requests for our users information and until more governments produce transparency reports.
